Education Session: Dementia and Driving
Leann Nixon provides an education session slide deck for Saskatchewan health care providers about dementia and driving, and referring to SGI's medical review unit
By RaDAR TeamIn 2019 Leann Nixon, then Manager of the SGI Medical Review Unit, led a web-conferenced education session for health care professionals. The session was not recorded, but Leann had provided a copy of the slide deck to share.
In the fall of 2022 Tracy Piller, current Manager of SGI's Medical Review Unit, updated the information in the slide deck and agreed to share the updated slide deck (2MB) as a resource for care providers.
2023 Update: members of CCNA Team 16 have developed a Driving and Dementia online toolkit, which includes information for health care providers about how to have conversations about driving cessation.
The Medical Review Unit (MRU) works to ensure that all Saskatchewan drivers have the medical fitness and the skills necessary to operate a vehicle safely. The session includes the role of the MRU at SGI, how and when to report to the MRU, and what process the MRU takes when they receive a report.
