Dr. Sanchez-Ramirez profile comprises education in seven countries and comprehensive research experience in the fields of human movement, rehabilitation, and public health. After graduating as Physical Therapist in 2004 in Colombia, Diana completed her graduate studies in Europe funded by the European Union. She obtained her joint degree as MPH from Copenhagen University, Denmark and Granada University, Spain; and her joint doctorate in Biomedical Sciences from the VU Amsterdam, the Netherlands and KU Leuven, Belgium. She followed this with a one and half postdoctoral fellowship at Associate at the Injury Prevention Centre in the School of Public Health, the University of Alberta where she is currently a Senior Research Associate.

Her research interests include human movement disorders, epidemiology of injury, health outcomes, health care use, and chronic diseases among vulnerable groups (i.e., older adults, Indigenous people, and Immigrants). During her Ph.D., Diana explored the influence of inflammatory, neuromuscular, biomechanical and behavioral factors in activity limitations among patients with knee OA using data from the Amsterdam osteoarthritis cohort and 3D movement analysis completed in KU Leuven, Belgium. Her research methodology also involves the use of administrative databases to conduct population-based studies. As such, in her recent experience with the Injury Prevention Centre, she has developed and implemented epidemiological studies about injuries and other relevant health conditions in Albertans using provincial data from Alberta Health. In collaboration with Alberta Health, the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA) Association and the University of Alberta, she has explored the burden of injuries and other chronic diseases in the Métis population of Alberta. Simultaneously, she is also conducting a study which examines the impact of alcohol policy on injuries and harm in central Alberta.

The Canadian Centre for Health and Safety in Agriculture (CCHSA) will be hosting the weekly seminar on Tuesday, February 14, 14:30-15:30 p.m. at James Dosman Boardroom 1254.
